Business Standard · business

Net Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in October reached ₹2.03 trillion, marking a significant 25.6% year-on-year increase and the fastest growth rate for the current financial year. This rise was primarily driven by a substantial increase in tax revenue from imports, which saw a 56.2% jump after refunds. Gross GST collections also grew by 22.9% to ₹2.31 trillion. Experts suggest this growth reflects increasing consumption demand, higher economic activity, and expanded domestic manufacturing, with recent GST Council decisions expected to further boost industrial competitiveness and investment.
