Mother-in-law denies abetting daughter-in-law's suicide

Giribala Singh, former judicial officer and mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma, has denied abetting her daughter-in-law's suicide. Sharma allegedly died by suicide in May, with the CBI flagging sustained mental torture by her husband and mother-in-law. Singh's counsel argued in the Madhya Pradesh High Court that while she was upset about Sharma's abortion, calling her a 'murderer' was a natural, heat-of-the-moment reaction. The counsel stated that Singh later apologized and did not intend for Sharma to commit suicide. The CBI has charged both Singh and her son with abetment to suicide.
