Yosemite Meadow Restoration Shows Early Gains, But Carbon Loss Continues

Times of India · environment

Scientists have planted 40,000 native sedge seedlings in Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows to restore areas damaged by over a century of livestock grazing. Three years later, early signs of improvement are visible, with soil organic matter increasing. However, the meadow is still losing more carbon than it is gaining. Researchers estimate that full recovery, restoring the soil's ability to store carbon, could take between 25 and 50 years. The project aims to reverse damage that has affected the meadow's ecosystem and wildlife.
