Indian Study Identifies 21 New Gene Types For Earlier Endometriosis Diagnosis

Times of India · health

A groundbreaking Indian study has identified 21 new gene types associated with endometriosis, potentially enabling earlier diagnosis for women in the country. Endometriosis, a painful gynaecological condition, currently takes an average of three to seven years to diagnose, leading to severe pain and infertility. This research, conducted by ICMR-NIRW-WH with participation from 18 institutions, aims to build a genetic basis for timely detection and treatment. The findings are crucial as India accounts for 20% of global endometriosis cases, and lacked specific genetic data until now.
