The auction of the Tara coal block in Chhattisgarh's Hasdeo Aranya region has reignited debate over mining in the ecologically sensitive area. Opposition Congress and activists cite concerns about deforestation and impact on the tribal population and the Lemru Elephant Reserve. Former CM Bhupesh Baghel stated the block spans 5,000 acres, with over 4,000 acres of dense forest, potentially felling over a million trees. This mining could severely disrupt elephant migration corridors.

छत्तीसगढ़ के हसदेव अरण्य क्षेत्र में तारा कोल ब्लॉक की नीलामी ने इस संवेदनशील इलाके में खनन को लेकर बहस फिर से छेड़ दी है। कांग्रेस और कार्यकर्ताओं ने जंगल कटाई, आदिवासी आबादी और लेमरू हाथी अभयारण्य पर पड़ने वाले असर को लेकर चिंता जताई है। पूर्व सीएम भूपेश बघेल ने बताया कि यह ब्लॉक 5,000 एकड़ में फैला है, जिसमें 4,000 एकड़ से ज़्यादा घना जंगल है। इससे लाखों पेड़ कट सकते हैं और हाथियों के आने-जाने के रास्ते भी बाधित हो सकते हैं।
