Odisha Floods: Evacuations Underway As Rivers Swell

Odisha authorities have begun evacuating residents from low-lying areas due to heavy rainfall causing rivers across the state to swell. The Hirakud Dam has opened 16 gates to release excess water into the Mahanadi river. Flash floods have impacted several districts, including Balasore, where 14,660 people in 91 villages were affected and 3,268 have been relocated. Rivers like Jalaka, Subarnarekha, and Budhabalanga have crossed their danger levels, inundating villages and damaging homes in areas like Jajpur and Koraput. The situation remains critical as water levels continue to rise.
