The Finance Ministry has reportedly denied any commitment to implementing a five-day work week for bank employees, contrary to claims by bank unions. The United Forum of Bank Unions, representing 90% of the banking workforce, announced a three-day strike starting September 28 to push for this and other demands. While some union issues like pension revisions were resolved, the Performance Linked Incentive scheme remains pending. The government has advised public sector banks to remain open on September 27 and disburse salaries in advance due to the strike.
