Canada's First Nation Community Uses Data Centre To Preserve Indigenous Language
The Hindu - International · world
The Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory in rural Ontario has installed a small data centre to modernise its record-keeping and preserve its cultural heritage. This initiative includes storing video recordings of Anishinaabe people speaking their native language, a critical effort as language loss is a major concern for First Nations. The data centre, about the size of a single-car garage, also holds corporate documents, health data, and security footage. This move signifies a step towards digital sovereignty, allowing the community to control its own information after historical exclusion.
