Maharashtra Election Chief Seeks 5 Changes From Election Commission

Maharashtra's Chief Electoral Officer, S. Chokkalingam, has proposed five key changes to the Election Commission of India concerning the electoral roll revision process. These suggestions aim to streamline the process for voters, especially vulnerable groups. The proposals include granting Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) more discretion in deciding the necessity of personal hearings for applicants and objectors. Additionally, a new option to exempt individuals from hearings is sought. The office also requested the addition of a 'document of equivalent value' option to the list of acceptable supporting documents.
