Union Ministry Grants Environmental Clearance for Thiruvananthapuram Outer Ring Road Project

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted environmental clearance for the 62.70-km Greenfield Thiruvananthapuram Outer Ring Road project, proposed as NH 866. The Rs 8,398.46-crore project will connect Navaikulam to Vizhinjam, traversing 24 villages across six taluks. Stringent environmental conditions have been imposed, including measures for wetlands, wildlife, and biodiversity. Around 21,000 trees are expected to be felled, with 2.1 lakh proposed for planting. The project aims to improve connectivity to Vizhinjam port and various hubs, while diverting traffic from urban areas.
