Karnataka Mahila Congress Chief Sowmya Reddy Resigns Over Lack of Women in Cabinet

Sowmya Reddy, a Congress MLA and daughter of Minister Ramalinga Reddy, has resigned as president of the Karnataka Pradesh Mahila Congress. She submitted her resignation nearly two months ago, on August 20, but the letter surfaced on Saturday, October 17. In her letter to All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba, Ms. Reddy expressed her strong displeasure regarding the absence of any woman legislator in the new state Cabinet. She stated she had served her two-year term, travelling the state to strengthen the party organisation.

कांग्रेस विधायक और मंत्री रामलिंग रेड्डी की बेटी सौम्या रेड्डी ने कर्नाटक प्रदेश महिला कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया है। उन्होंने लगभग दो महीने पहले 20 अगस्त को अपना इस्तीफा सौंपा था, लेकिन यह पत्र शनिवार, 17 अक्टूबर को सामने आया। ऑल इंडिया महिला कांग्रेस की अध्यक्ष अलका लांबा को लिखे पत्र में, सुश्री रेड्डी ने नई राज्य कैबिनेट में किसी भी महिला विधायक की अनुपस्थिति के बारे में अपनी गहरी नाराजगी व्यक्त की। उन्होंने कहा कि उन्होंने पार्टी संगठन को मजबूत करने के लिए राज्य की यात्रा करते हुए अपना दो साल का कार्यकाल पूरा किया है।
