Tamil Nadu Police Told Not To Be 'Procrustes' By Madras High Court
TOI - Delhi · india
The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu police not to act like Procrustes, meaning they should not arbitrarily reject applications for RSS route marches. Justice V Lakshminarayanan stated that police should process applications for approval rather than searching for defects for rejection, even when using court- or Supreme Court-framed guidelines. The court noted that the police consistently used the same 'lame' reasons for rejection. It allowed processions scheduled for and, subject to police-suggested local modifications, with organisers needing to file an affidavit of compliance.
