Tamil Nadu Liquor Shops Remain Stuck In The 90s Despite Reforms

Times of India · india

Tamil Nadu's Tasmac liquor shops continue to operate in a state of disarray, resembling 90s arrack stalls despite numerous reform attempts over 23 years. Customers face issues like missing price lists, unbilled purchases, poor liquor selection, and abusive staff who overcharge. Recent reforms, including UPI billing, bottle buybacks, and empty bottle collection, have been sabotaged by staff or failed due to apathy. Despite efforts to curb revenue leakage, service quality has not improved, with attached bars also in dismal condition and a cartel controlling liquor brands.
