Demands for an immediate restart of mining in South Goa are emerging as a potential election issue for the 2027 assembly polls. Truck owners and drivers from Sanguem, Quepem, and Curchorem met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, urging him to resume mining activities and transportation of mining dumps to secure their livelihoods. Sawant assured them mining would begin within two months, but skepticism remains among mining-dependent communities. Political observers suggest the issue could become a major election plank if the promise is not fulfilled, potentially impacting the BJP's traditional stronghold.
