Despite past crackdowns, illegal de-addiction centres continue to operate in Ludhiana's rural outskirts, preying on vulnerable families through word-of-mouth and pamphlets. Officials state these illicit operators target outer areas, exploiting local awareness gaps. Police recently arrested three men for running an unapproved facility in Kutbelwal village, where 20 addicts were found crammed without proper medical infrastructure. These centres charge exorbitant fees, with inmates often escaping to consume drugs. Ludhiana has 33 authorised facilities, but illegal ones persist, particularly in rural zones.
