Former DMK Minister E.V. Velu and Son Seek Anticipatory Bail in Lake Bed Mining Case

Former DMK Minister E.V. Velu and his son E.V. Kumaran have sought anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court. They are implicated in a case involving the alleged excavation of over 45 lakh cubic feet of sand from Malappambadi lake. This was reportedly done to level a venue for a DMK youth wing conference. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has been given time to file objections, with the court advising against coercive action for now.
