Goa Govt to Challenge High Court Order on ST Seat Reservation in Supreme Court

The Goa government plans to approach the Supreme Court this week to challenge a Bombay High Court order that has stalled the process of political reservation for Scheduled Tribes. The High Court had restrained the Census Commissioner from notifying ST population estimates, stating figures should only be based on the post-2026 census. Goa officials are seeking to vacate this stay and file a Special Leave Petition.

गोवा सरकार इस हफ़्ते सुप्रीम कोर्ट जाने की तैयारी में है। बॉम्बे हाई कोर्ट के एक आदेश को चुनौती दी जाएगी जिसने अनुसूचित जनजातियों के लिए राजनीतिक आरक्षण की प्रक्रिया रोक दी थी। हाई कोर्ट ने जनगणना आयुक्त को एसटी आबादी के अनुमानों को अधिसूचित करने से रोक दिया था, यह कहते हुए कि आंकड़े केवल 2026 के बाद की जनगणना पर आधारित होने चाहिए। गोवा के अधिकारी इस रोक को हटाने और एक विशेष अवकाश याचिका दायर करने की मांग कर रहे हैं।
