Centre, Meghalaya Assess Revival of Small-Scale Coal Mining

A technical team from the Union ministry of coal, along with officials from CMPDI and DGMS, recently inspected coal-bearing areas in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills and Khasi Hills. The visit aimed to assess the feasibility of restarting small-scale coal mining in the state through safe, scientific, and environmentally sustainable methods. Discussions were held with state officials regarding local miners' concerns and the necessary technical, safety, and environmental requirements.
