Australian Couple Replaces Grapevines With Native Bush, Aiding Threatened Parrot

Times of India · environment

An Australian couple has transformed their 40-acre vineyard in South Australia's Riverland region into a native bushland habitat. Tony and Cherie Townsend began the restoration project in 2022, replanting the land with native vegetation instead of commercial crops. This initiative is now a multi-generational family effort, with four generations participating in planting. The project aims to create a vital refuge for the threatened regent parrot, which has suffered from habitat loss. The restoration is supported by conservation groups and aims to reconnect fragmented habitats.
