Finance Minister Urges Regulators to Speed Up Unclaimed Asset Refunds

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has urged financial sector regulators to expedite the refund of unclaimed bank deposits, shares, and funds to their rightful owners. The directive came during a Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) meeting, which also reviewed cybersecurity preparedness and the implementation of the Financial Sector Cyber Security Strategy. Discussions also focused on simplifying KYC processes, expanding digital public infrastructure, and reducing financial intermediation costs. The Council stressed the need for vigilance amid geopolitical uncertainties and global economic trends to mitigate risks to financial stability.

केंद्रीय वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने वित्तीय क्षेत्र के नियामकों से लावारिस बैंक जमा, शेयर और फंड को उनके असली मालिकों को वापस करने की प्रक्रिया तेज करने का आग्रह किया है। यह निर्देश फाइनेंशियल स्टेबिलिटी एंड डेवलपमेंट काउंसिल (FSDC) की बैठक के दौरान आया, जिसमें साइबर सुरक्षा की तैयारी और फाइनेंशियल सेक्टर साइबर सिक्योरिटी स्ट्रेटेजी के कार्यान्वयन की भी समीक्षा की गई। चर्चाओं में केवाईसि (KYC) प्रक्रियाओं को सरल बनाने, डिजिटल पब्लिक इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर का विस्तार करने और वित्तीय मध्यस्थता लागत को कम करने पर भी ध्यान केंद्रित किया गया। परिषद ने वित्तीय स्थिरता के लिए जोखिमों को कम करने के लिए भू-राजनीतिक अनिश्चितताओं और वैश्विक आर्थिक रुझानों के बीच सतर्कता की आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया।
