First Record of Twin and Triplet Embryos Found in Wild Burmese Python Eggs
Times of India · science
Scientists in Florida have discovered twin and triplet embryos within two eggs laid by a single wild Burmese python, marking the first documented instance of triplet embryos in snakes. The python laid 37 eggs on May 17, 2024, in Big Cypress National Preserve. While 32 hatched normally, two non-viable eggs contained five embryos in total, all of which died before hatching. This unusual finding raises questions about how multiple embryos develop within a single snake egg and the frequency of such occurrences in the wild.
