India's Workforce Needs Lifelong Learning Amidst Rapid Technological Change
Hindustan Times · education
India's workforce is shifting from a degree-centric model to one valuing continuous learning and adaptability. Employers increasingly prioritize demonstrable skills and the ability to acquire new ones quickly, a trend more pronounced in India than globally. Rapid advancements in AI and digitalization are shortening the shelf-life of existing knowledge, making traditional recall-based education insufficient. NITI Aayog reports highlight skill gaps, including weak digital and communication abilities, which lecture-based systems fail to address. While India has scaled skill education initiatives, a fundamental restructuring towards inquiry-based learning is crucial for future employability.
