DW World · world
This summer was the third-warmest on record for Europe, with a record 52% of the continent experiencing "very strong" heat stress, according to the EU's Copernicus Climate Service. "Very strong" heat stress is defined as temperatures feeling above 38 degrees Celsius. Around 80% of Europe faced "strong" heat stress, where temperatures feel like over 32 degrees Celsius. The heatwaves also led to the lowest average river flows since 1992 and contributed to tens of thousands of deaths.
