Foreign social and home care workers in the UK arriving before May 2025 will now be eligible for permanent residency in five years, a significant reduction from the previously proposed 15 years. This revised 'earned settlement' scheme, finalised on November 2, 2026, also offers faster settlement for higher earners, doctors, nurses, and teachers. The changes are a response to public consultation and pressure from within the Labour Party and health unions.
