Non-native Birds Record Breeding At Pallikaranai Marshland

Pallikaranai marshland in Chennai has witnessed a record breeding season for non-native bird species this year. Species like bronze-winged Jacanas, fulvous whistling ducks, and pied mynas have shown significant population increases. The Jacana count reached the hundreds, with 185 sighted in September and 201 in August, a remarkable comeback. Fulvous whistling ducks saw an exponential rise to 1,155 birds in September, compared to just 68 last year. This surge indicates a favourable habitat, potentially due to floating vegetation and organic waste.

चेन्नई की पल्लिकरनई आर्द्रभूमि में इस साल गैर-देशी पक्षी प्रजातियों के लिए रिकॉर्ड प्रजनन का मौसम देखा गया है। कांस्य पंखों वाली जकाना, फुलवस व्हिसलिंग डक और पिड मैना जैसी प्रजातियों की आबादी में उल्लेखनीय वृद्धि देखी गई है। जकाना की संख्या सैकड़ों में पहुँच गई, सितंबर में 185 और अगस्त में 201 देखी गईं, जो एक उल्लेखनीय वापसी है। फुलवस व्हिसलिंग डक की संख्या सितंबर में बढ़कर 1,155 हो गई, जबकि पिछले साल केवल 68 थी। यह वृद्धि अनुकूल आवास का संकेत देती है, जो संभवतः तैरते वनस्पति और जैविक कचरे के कारण है।
