Egypt's parliament has authorised President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to provide military support to Saudi Arabia if requested by the kingdom. The decision follows intensified attacks by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis on Saudi facilities, including airports and Aramco. This move raises the possibility of Egypt becoming more directly involved in the regional conflict, though el-Sisi stated any action would be limited to defending Saudi territory. Egypt has a stake in Red Sea security, as Houthi attacks near the Bab al-Mandeb strait disrupt shipping and Suez Canal revenue.
