फ्रांस के छात्र बेहतर शिक्षा की मांग को लेकर कई दिनों के विरोध प्रदर्शन के बाद शुक्रवार को कक्षाओं में लौटे, वहीं संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने हिंसक झड़पों पर चिंता व्यक्त की है। सितंबर के अंत से ही देशभर में हजारों लोगों ने प्रदर्शन किया, जिसमें अनुपस्थित शिक्षक और जर्जर सुविधाएं जैसे मुद्दे उठाए गए। 6,800 से अधिक लोगों को हिरासत में लिया गया है, जिनमें ज्यादातर नाबालिग हैं। संयुक्त राष्ट्र मानवाधिकार एजेंसी ने पुलिस द्वारा अत्यधिक बल प्रयोग के आरोपों के बीच शांतिपूर्ण समाधान का आग्रह किया है। सरकार का इरादा है कि वह वैकल्पिक शिक्षकों की तैनाती करे और बजट के भीतर मांगों को पूरा करे।
