Live-in relationships can get domestic cruelty protection

The Supreme Court has ruled that women in live-in relationships can seek protection under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code. This protection is applicable only if the relationship is deemed to be "in the nature of marriage." Additionally, there must be a clear intention to marry for the provisions to be invoked.
