Ian 'Hippy' Rogers and his wife, Sue, a school principal, have transformed a neglected schoolhouse in Tokanui, Southland, into a unique family residence. The school, originally built in 1958 and closed in 1993, was overgrown when the couple purchased it in 2017. After two years of extensive renovation, including stripping it back to its frame and retrofitting windows, the property now features original elements like a large chalkboard and cubby holes. The dilapidated swimming pool was also removed and repurposed.
