Indian Rupee Surges 96 Paise Against Dollar After RBI Curbs Take Effect
Times of India · business
The Indian rupee gained 96 paise to reach 95.77 against the US dollar on Monday, marking its highest rise in over six months. This recovery follows fresh measures implemented by the RBI to curb dollar demand and speculative positions. Despite the gains, economists suggest the recovery might be temporary unless underlying pressures like elevated oil prices and trade deficits ease. Banks have requested the RBI for relaxation and more time to comply with the new foreign exchange restrictions, citing operational and cost concerns.
