US Appeals Court Halts Tennessee Execution of Christa Pike Hours Before Scheduled

A federal appeals court has temporarily halted the execution of Christa Pike, a death row inmate in Tennessee, just hours before she was scheduled to receive a lethal injection. The 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals granted a stay to consider Pike's argument that her childhood history of sexual abuse was not adequately considered during her sentencing. Pike, 50, was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer.
