China's Trade Barriers Hinder India's Exports, Says Finance Minister Sitharaman
Business Standard · business
India faces a growing trade imbalance with China due to Beijing's non-tariff barriers restricting Indian products, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated. She highlighted phytosanitary rules and denial of market access for goods like drugs, beef, and vegetables as major hurdles. Sitharaman mentioned that India's trade deficit with China has surpassed $100 billion this year. Despite this, India has not retaliated with similar barriers. The minister also noted that existing trade agreements with Southeast Asian nations are skewed against India and require renegotiation.
