Sweden's Andreas Almgren made history by winning the New York City Marathon on his debut with a time of 2:06:01. He became the first man since 2010 to achieve this feat, holding off Italy's Yemaneberhan Crippa. Almgren's performance also marked the third-fastest time ever recorded on the NYC Marathon course. In the women's race, Kenya's Sheila Chepkirui successfully defended her title, narrowly beating American Jessica McClain, while defending champion Hellen Obiri finished third. Nearly 60,000 runners participated in this year's event.
