US prosecutors revealed that Abdulrahman Alfozan, an arrested OpenAI engineer, was in frequent communication with a member of the Saudi Royal Family. Alfozan, who was fired after his arrest for planting a recording device, was deemed a flight risk due to his wife and son's departure to Saudi Arabia and his own planned one-way ticket. The royal family member reportedly discussed an AI initiative in Saudi Arabia and attempted to recruit Alfozan. Alfozan expressed agreement with joining the initiative, stating he would leave OpenAI after his stock vested.
