Chennai Corporation Proposes Streetlight Maintenance Across 12 Zones

The Greater Chennai Corporation has proposed a one-year maintenance plan for 2,33,267 streetlights and 443 high-mast lights across 12 zones, excluding material costs. This initiative, discussed at a council meeting, includes daily monitoring and repairing faulty lights within 24 hours. The Ambattur Zone alone will see maintenance costing ₹5.01 crore. Penalties will be imposed for delayed repairs and other failures. This comes after a recent inspection identified 2,079 non-functional streetlights city-wide.
