Social media users pointed out that the image evoked Ku Klux Klan imagery, with the lighting resembling a white pointed hood. Some also likened dangling shoes in the picture to an image of a lynching victim. Converse acknowledged the error, stating, "We got this wrong" and apologized for the deeply upsetting nature of the advert.
