Paper Straws May Harm Environment More Than Plastic, Study Finds

A South Korean government study has raised questions about the environmental benefits of paper straws, suggesting they may not be superior to plastic alternatives. The research compared paper, plastic, biodegradable plastic, and bio-PE straws across 16 environmental impact scales. Findings indicated that regular plastic straws had the lowest environmental impact in 10 categories, including climate change and human health. Paper straws showed a 6.33 times higher probable environmental carcinogen impact than plastic straws.
