Supreme Court: Professional Course Fees Must Be Fixed Before Admission

The Supreme Court has directed that fees for all professional courses must be finalized before admissions begin and should not be altered during the course duration. A bench comprising Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe emphasized that students and their families must know the total financial burden upfront. While acknowledging that fee changes might be permissible in exceptional circumstances like unforeseen expenses or legal amendments, the court stressed these should be rare exceptions.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने निर्देश दिया है कि सभी प्रोफेशनल कोर्स की फीस एडमिशन शुरू होने से पहले फाइनल कर दी जानी चाहिए और कोर्स की अवधि के दौरान इसमें कोई बदलाव नहीं किया जाना चाहिए। जस्टिस पीएस नरसिम्हा और आलोक आर्दे की बेंच ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि छात्रों और उनके परिवारों को शुरू से ही कुल वित्तीय बोझ पता होना चाहिए। कोर्ट ने माना कि असाधारण परिस्थितियों में जैसे अप्रत्याशित खर्च या कानूनी संशोधन होने पर फीस में बदलाव की इजाज़त दी जा सकती है, लेकिन कोर्ट ने जोर देकर कहा कि ये दुर्लभ अपवाद होने चाहिए।
