IndiGo fined Rs 2 Lakh For Cancelling Honeymoon Flight Hours Before Departure

Times of India · business

A Delhi consumer commission has ordered IndiGo Airlines to pay Rs 2 lakh in compensation to a couple whose honeymoon trip to Geneva was disrupted. The airline cancelled their Delhi-Istanbul flight just hours before departure on May 17, 2024, citing operational reasons. The couple alleged no prior notice or valid explanation was given. They incurred additional costs of Rs 69,774 for last-minute tickets with Etihad Airways. The commission rejected IndiGo's defence of operational reasons, deeming it insufficient to justify the cancellation and finding the airline liable for deficiency in service.
