Rare Japanese Sparrowhawk Sighted Again At Chennai's Adyar Estuary
TOI - Delhi · india
A rare Japanese Sparrowhawk has been sighted for the second time at Chennai's Adyar estuary by three birders. This marks the third sighting of the species in India and the second in Chennai, with the first occurrence at the same location in November last year. The bird, an adult female, typically inhabits Japan, Mongolia, and China, making its presence in India highly unusual. Experts emphasize the importance of preserving such habitats, like the Adyar Estuary, Theosophical Society, and Guindy National Park, to accommodate migratory and vagrant species.
