Organizers stated that women, journalists, and senior citizens were among those detained, raising concerns about the manner of their custody. The protest was called by various student and youth organizations.

शनिवार को अहमदाबाद पुलिस ने 70 से ज़्यादा लोगों को हिरासत में लिया जो मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त ज्ञान प्रकाश के इस्तीफे की मांग को लेकर प्रदर्शन करने वाले थे। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने मतदाता सूची के विशेष गहन संशोधन में अनियमितताओं का आरोप लगाया, दावा किया कि इससे कई नाम हटा दिए गए। पुलिस ने एमजे लाइब्रेरी के पास सभा को रोकने के लिए लगभग 250 कर्मियों को तैनात किया था। आयोजकों ने बताया कि हिरासत में लिए गए लोगों में महिलाएं, पत्रकार और बुजुर्ग शामिल थे, जिससे उनकी हिरासत के तरीके पर चिंता जताई गई। यह विरोध विभिन्न छात्र और युवा संगठनों द्वारा बुलाया गया था।
