Activists Urge Odisha Governor to Intervene in Bauxite Mining Arrests

Human rights activists have petitioned the Governor of Odisha, Braj Mohan Ram, seeking his intervention regarding the arrests of individuals opposing Sijimali bauxite mining in Kalahandi and Rayagada districts. Prafulla Samantara stated that police are making indiscriminate arrests, falsely implicating people in criminal charges to suppress dissent against the mining project. Activists Randall Sequeira and Laxman Naik were reportedly arrested on October 16, with allegations that their families and lawyers were denied access.
