FPIs Invest Heavily in IPOs Despite Stock Market Selloff

Business Standard Markets · stocks

Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have maintained a strong preference for India's primary market, investing ₹55,524 crore in IPOs in 2026 alone, even as they offloaded a record ₹3.15 trillion in listed stocks. This trend has persisted for three consecutive years, with FPIs remaining net buyers in the primary market since 2009, except for 2011. Analysts attribute this to structural reasons, including limited selling opportunities in IPOs and a focus on high-growth new-age companies.
