Small-scale fishers in Bengal have called for enhanced protection of their traditional fishing rights and sought climate-risk insurance during a national consultation. They also requested wider social security coverage and greater involvement in coastal governance. Seventy delegates from various fishing communities participated in the event, urging authorities to safeguard customary rights, especially in areas impacted by coastal development. Participants emphasized the need for effective consultation on projects affecting their livelihoods and called for improved disaster preparedness and early-warning systems.
