The Hindu · india

The Supreme Court has stated that physical intimacy during a consensual relationship cannot be termed as rape if the relationship later sours. A Bench of Justices B. V. Nagarathna and R. Mahadevan discharged a man accused of rape, emphasizing that criminal law should not be weaponized after emotional discord between consenting adults. The court expressed concern over the trend of retrospectively scrutinizing ended relationships to find grounds for sexual assault charges.
