India's Forex Reserves Drop By $5 Billion To $721 Billion: RBI Data

Business Standard · business

India's foreign exchange reserves saw a decline of $5.011 billion, bringing the total to $721.016 billion as of October 16, according to Reserve Bank of India data. This follows a previous decrease of $8.578 billion in the preceding week. The reserves had previously reached an all-time high of $785.706 billion on September 4. Experts suggest the recent drop is due to the deployment of FCNR(B) resources and the RBI's currency defence through dollar sales. While foreign currency assets decreased, gold reserves and Special Drawing Rights saw an increase.
