Kasturirangan Report May Cause Migration To Goa

Karnataka Assembly Deputy Speaker Mankal Vaidya warned that the Kasturirangan report, if implemented as is, could force over 85,000 families from Uttara Kannada to migrate to Goa or coastal islands. He stated that over half of the district's 14 lakh population resides in the Western Ghats and could be impacted. Vaidya highlighted the significant sacrifices made by locals for projects like the Konkan Railway and Seabird naval base, urging the state government.

कर्नाटक के डिप्टी स्पीकर मंकल वैद्य ने चेतावनी दी है कि अगर कस्तूरीरंगन रिपोर्ट जैसी है वैसी लागू हुई तो उत्तर कन्नड़ के 85,000 से ज़्यादा परिवार गोवा या तटीय द्वीपों पर जाने को मजबूर हो सकते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि जिले की 14 लाख आबादी का आधा से ज़्यादा हिस्सा पश्चिमी घाट में रहता है और प्रभावित हो सकता है।
