Wage unrest has gripped Bangladesh's garment sector, leading to the closure of dozens of factories and clashes between workers and police. Workers are demanding a minimum monthly wage of 30,000 taka, more than double the current 12,500 taka, citing increased living expenses. The government announced plans to form a wage board to review salaries and resolve the dispute. This unrest threatens the country's vital ready-made garment industry, which employs four million people and accounts for over 80% of export earnings.
