SC: Flat buyers shouldn't suffer for govt lapses

The Supreme Court has ruled that flat purchasers cannot be made to suffer due to lapses by government authorities, especially when they relied on official permissions and revenue records. The court was hearing appeals against a Madras High Court order that upheld the cancellation of a land patta and demolition of flats built on a water body. The Supreme Court directed the Tamil Nadu government to provide alternative sites to owners of 20 flats before demolition.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने फैसला सुनाया है कि सरकारी अधिकारियों की चूक के कारण फ्लैट खरीदारों को परेशान नहीं किया जा सकता, खासकर जब उन्होंने सरकारी अनुमति और राजस्व रिकॉर्ड पर भरोसा किया हो। कोर्ट मद्रास हाई कोर्ट के उस आदेश के खिलाफ अपीलों पर सुनवाई कर रहा था जिसने जल निकाय पर बने फ्लैटों के विध्वंस और भूमि पट्टे के रद्दीकरण को बरकरार रखा था। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने तमिलनाडु सरकार को विध्वंस से पहले 20 फ्लैटों के मालिकों को वैकल्पिक स्थल उपलब्ध कराने का निर्देश दिया।
