SC Rules: Reservation Benefits End With Religious Conversion

The Supreme Court has ruled that individuals converted from Hinduism to other religions cannot claim reservation benefits based on their previous caste status. The court clarified that social backwardness linked to the Hindu caste system does not automatically transfer to another religion upon conversion. This decision upholds a Madras High Court order that had previously cancelled the Tamil Nadu government's decision to grant reservation to converts.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने फैसला सुनाया है कि हिंदू धर्म से दूसरे धर्मों में परिवर्तित हुए व्यक्ति अपने पिछले जाति स्टेटस के आधार पर आरक्षण का लाभ नहीं उठा सकते। कोर्ट ने साफ किया कि हिंदू जाति व्यवस्था से जुड़ी सामाजिक पिछड़ापन धर्म परिवर्तन पर अपने आप दूसरे धर्म में स्थानांतरित नहीं होता। इस फैसले ने मद्रास हाई कोर्ट के उस आदेश को बरकरार रखा है जिसने पहले तमिलनाडु सरकार के धर्मांतरित लोगों को आरक्षण देने के फैसले को रद्द कर दिया था।
